Coaching @ Work

This tailored programme over 2 days is for people who wish to put coaching skills into practice in their role at work. It will be suitable for people who are new to coaching conversations as well as those who want to refresh their skills.
In the business setting the definitions of coach and coaching that come from the sports arena are not directly applicable. There are, however, observable behaviours that occur when good practice in the coaching process is followed. Those behaviours are the focus of this training.
Tailored training for supervisors, managers and leaders
By completing the training participants will:
  • Learn more about when using a coaching approach at work is advised
  • Get options for helping people who lack motivation, drive or commitment
  • Practice powerful questions that get to the root cause of a problem
  • Find their best way to make coaching conversational and feel natural
  • Connect with and be part of a group sharing experience and expertise
"It's about achieving more and making things better in the long run"

Picture
The training is ideally suited to participants who
  • Have skills in establishing a professional relationship with others
  • Have some experience of using or receiving a coaching approach
  • Are ready to apply their existing knowledge to coaching situations
  • Have questions about when to use, and when not to use, coaching

Overall aim for the training:
  • To build the skills to deliver effective coaching conversations at work
At the end of the programme participants will be able to:
  1. Describe what coaching is, their role as coach and how it can contribute to maximising performance or making changes
  2. Lead a coaching conversation that supports others to achieve their chosen goals
  3. Apply coaching following the GROW or SCORE models
  4. Describe the learning gained through self-reflection and shared feedback
The specialised training will be aligned with the accrediting criteria of leading coaching associations (EMCC, ICF, AfC, etc.) and include presentations, practical activity, case studies, demonstrations, feedback and a free coach development support.

Outline Programme
The course is tailored to each organisations needs and is run in an open and flexible style. The following topics are examples of areas we could cover over the 2 days:
MAKING THE COACHING APPROACH WORK
  • Making a connection. Without a positive relationship in place, inspiring others is like asking a seed to grow on the moon. How the core skills of Rapport, Listening, Reflecting, Celebrating and Summarising are essential for supporting change.
  • The “Ask vs. Tell” approach. Why telling others what to do, doesn’t work. How to ask questions that allow others to create their own insights and build their own buy-in to solutions.
  • Focus on the person vs. the task. Coaching is not about taking the fast track to a solution, only to have to repeat it again, again. How to identify the root cause and support peoples development over the long term.
  • Being in-the-moment. Coaching is something that can/should happen as needed at the time it is needed. How to spot opportunities for coaching and harness them.
HELPING PEOPLE ACHIEVE SHARED GOALS
  • Think big with outcomes. How to set up a clear accountability structure to help the other person keep focused on taking action and achieving their desired goals.
  • Focus on what really matters. The hidden limits that stop people making changes and achieving goals. How to get (and keep) people excited, motivated and engaged.
  • Have some difficult conversations.  People often avoid situations where they fear they don’t have enough natural talent, skill or intelligence to succeed. How to give feedback to people that helps them adopt a positive can-do attitude and mindset.
  • Go with the problem. Sometimes people can be stuck knowing what they don’t want and find it difficult to break their pattern of thinking. How using reversal questions as a coach can unlock new possibilities.

"I have to say I didn't really believe in coaching before this course but I can now see how it will help me as supervisor and mentor with my team. I'm converted!"
