The NLPt Approach
Neuro Linguistic Programming is founded on the idea that we all build and update our own unique model or map of the world based on our own experiences. We use this map to decide the things we can and can’t do, and to give our experiences meaning.
Neuro Linguistic Psychotherapy is a way of exploring how people think and identifying conscious and unconscious patterns of behaviour. By working with a persons metaphors, language patterns and their here and now experience the therapist assists them to change the old pattern, add choices, release unhelpful emotions or beliefs and gain more freedom.
Neuro Linguistic Psychotherapy (NLPt) is a specialist form of NLP and draws on a number of established philosophical and psychological backgrounds. It is a practical and solution focussed approach that is a result from the practice of modelling the works of Fritz Perls, Virginia Satir and Milton Erickson and including the ideas of Gregory Bateson, Albert Bandura, Noam Chomsky, Alfred Korzybski, George Miller, William James and the creators of NLP - Richard Bandler and John Grinder.
With NLPt the client is in charge and the therapist is there to help them reach their outcomes. A NLPt therapist will usually bring in other approaches as and when needed to help the client reach their outcome as elegantly as possible. I will often include elements of CBT, Hypnosis and Positive Psychology with clients.
Professional
I
have been involved in development and training for over 16 years working with
individuals and groups. I am a UKCP Registered and NLPtCA Accredited
Psychotherapist and INLPTA Registered NLP, Coaching and Business Communications
Trainer. As a member of NLPtCA and EMCC I have regular supervision and abide by
their code of ethics and conduct.
While not working 1:1, I run certified courses in Coaching and NLP and work as a
training consultant.

Appointments
I offer psychotherapy sessions in two different formats.
- Traditional sessions are popular and take place either from my therapy room in Kendal or at your organisations chosen venue.
- Telephone or skype is gaining popularity and allows you to get the benefits of working with me without the time involved in travel.
However we agree to hold the sessions, the initial 20 minutes is a chance for introductions and an overall assessment of the area(s) to be addressed. At the end of this period we jointly assess progress and agree overall goals / outcomes, and appropriate number of sessions.
How long and how much?
Investing in psychotherapy is a commitment to your long term inner contentment and future success. The number of sessions required depends on the issues a person wants to address and how complex these may be. My approach is “as long as it takes and no longer.” For many issues this is between 5-12 sessions.
For private clients
Psychotherapy charges are £50 per hour.
Sessions are usually 1 hour long and most clients see me once every 10 days or
so.
For organisations
I offer a confidential service to support employees for a set number of sessions (usually 3-6) and can use NLPt, CBT, Solution Focussed and Positive Psychology approaches. Charges are £60 per hour, including assessment reports as required.
